The Danish Coastal Authority is an independent agency under the Danish Ministry of Environment and Food. The authority’s functions include coastal and flooding protection and the administration of the state territorial waters. Moreover, the Danish Coastal Authority functions as adviser to The Minister of Environment and Food. Carrying out analyses, construction projects, disaster preparedness and emergency readiness, the agency covers Denmark’s entire 7300 km long coastline, in close cooperation with Denmark’s complex network of stakeholders. Within FAIR, The Danish Coastal Authority wishes to improve its strategy for adaptation of flooding protection to future climate, by sharing knowledge with European partners. Providing two unique case studies in Denmark, the authority wishes to reconsider its approach to climate adaptation and maintenance procedures.
