Local effects of climate change in Sweden

04 July 2019 - Published by Eric Boessenkool
The Swedish Association of Local Authorities and Regions have, together with the Swedish Meteorological and Hydrological Institute, written a report on local effects of climate change.

The report is based on data from 3 municipalities in Sweden, all with different issues regarding climate change – Malmö, Norrköping and Härjedalen. Malmö is situated in the south of Sweden which is not subject to basically any land rise. The area is therefore more exposed to sea level rise and flooding.

The report displays a worst case scenario of an increased temperature of 3-4 degrees. For the city centre of Malmö it concludes that the effects would be massive. The harbor, the railway station and other critical infrastructures will be flooded.
