Twinning - an important part
Under this cooperation between the two countries, twinning has become an important element to learn mutually from both parties.
The learning objective for this visit was centred around asset management and investment planning of flood protection infrastructure. With the focus being on government procurement and the legal and management systems thereby associated, for large, complex water infrastructure programs. As such, the Chinese delegation was keen to share insights with Interreg NSR project FAIR.
On behalf of the Rijkswaterstaat team (lead partner of FAIR), Mr. Berry Gersonius gave a presentation on the FAIR project. In his presentation, he covered the objectives of FAIR, the approach to achieve these objectives and the project results to date.
An example being the 4 policy recommendation areas put forward in the FAIR policy brief (the printed version of this Policy brief was distributed amongst the delegation). Berry illustrated the recommendation to “prepare for change” using the example of the IJmuiden pumping station in relation to its water system. This provided a bridge to the previous presentation on the IJmuiden sluice / pumping station by Rijkswaterstaat Zeesluis Ijmuiden Programme Director Mr. Jaap Zeilmaker. The Chinese delegation was also offered a tour through the SHIP visitor’s centre on the New Sea Sluice Ijmuiden.
