The yearly conference Netherlands Center for River research (NCR) were organized on February 13 and 14th in Nijmegen the Netherlands.

NCR is the leading cooperative alliance between all major Dutch institutes for river studies. They integrate knowledge, facilitate discussion and promote excellent science. This year there was a workshop focused on Water safety and floodrisk. Bart Vonk as project manager of Interreg NSR FAIR project had written an abstract introducing the four recommendations of the FAIR policy brief.

  • Break free of the silo
  • Mind the gap
  • Prepare for change
  • Make space for innovation

In the discussion questions were asked about the acceptance of the recommendations by other countries and if the option of if the delay of investments is an acceptable one.  Bart Vonk explained that FAIR delivers a framework to work with instead of unique solutions. Pilots help policy makers and operational managers to understand how this framework will work in different situations and how it can be adapted into their own unique challenges.
