Southwell, Trent Rivers Trust
The Trent Rivers Trust will be working with the local community of Southwell in Nottinghamshire to identify and deliver potential schemes which aim to reduce the flood risk to this attractive market town.Southwell experienced a severe flooding event in summer 2013 which damaged over 300 properties in the town. Monies are being invested in traditional flood defence measures but the FRAMES project aims to identify innovative Natural Flood Management (NFM) measures and Sustainable Drainage Schemes (SuDS) which could contribute to a reduction in the level of flood risk during storm events.
Trent Rivers Trust has already established good working relationships with several of the landowners and farmers in the target catchment, the Potwell Dyke. The Trust has regularly met with the Southwell Flood Forum and has secured support for the approach being taken in the wider catchment area. Other key stakeholders in the project include the Nottingham Trent University Brackenhurst campus and Nottinghamshire County Council, both of whom will be directly involved in the FRAMES delivery.
