Flood proof electricity grid Zeeland

Large-scale and prolonged loss of electricity is of great influence on daily life. In case of flooding of the electricity network by salt water, damage and recovery time is much greater than flooding by fresh water.

Within this FRAMES pilot the flood resilience of the electricity supply network in Zeeland has been studied. The main conclusions of this study are that electricity outage due to heavy rainfall can be considered as a very small risk in Zeeland and that the risks of electricity failure due to flooding by dike breaches are the largest for the surroundings of Middelburg, Vlissingen, Goes, Kapelle, Reimerswaal and along the edges of Walcheren and Zeeuws-Vlaanderen.
