In addition, technology is delivered to markets like offshore wind, subsea mining and aquaculture. Key expertise within the cluster is mechatronics, ICT, global value chain and supply risk and management.
GCE NODE companies are looking for crossovers to new ocean space technology and markets. Therefore, achieving access to new ocean-related markets is of importance. Faster innovation in business models and ocean space technologies will also be beneficial. Further on, achieving new contacts through business to business meetings that involves our companies is a main target.

Aarhus University, Denmark

The Aarhus University is host to the Strategic Foresight Research Network, which has a long track record of developing methodologies and providing industry foresight. The workpackage leader, Professor René Rohrbeck, has served previously as innovation director of the EIT Digital, where he has implemented a holistic approch for networked industry foresight. He has also advised leading firms from different industries on building foresight and strategic business development capabilities.
The project participation will feed into an existing research program which develops and tests novel industry foresight methods and tools. The project will profit from the aplication of state-of-the-art industry foresight tools, while the university will be able to draw conclusions for further refinement of approaches. Aarhus University will participate with PhD and post-doctoral researchers as well as a full-professor.

Nederland Maritiem Land, the Netherlands

NML facilitates the Dutch maritime network; innovation a core theme, triple helix cooperation is facilitated by NML. In a strong NML Innovation Council, stakeholders unite and focus on key priorities in maritime R&D&I. Joint Industry Projects are initiated, feasibility studies stimulated. The Government discusses national maritime R&D&I priorities through NML. NML works closely with Netherlands Maritime Technology (NMT), representing shipyards, marine equipment suppliers and service providers.

Business Region Göteborg, Sweden

Business Region Göteborg (BRG) works to strengthen and develop trade and industry in the Gothenburg region. BRG creates the conditions for innovation by strengthening cooperation in industries with growth potential. The maritime sector is one of the regions focus areas and within the project Periscope BRG can offer following:

  • West Swedish Subsea Network - a network for West Swedish companies operating in the subsea area;
  • Business network in the area of maritime operations.

West Sweden, or Västra Götaland, has a strong maritime industry but faced with global competition, it is increasingly important to be part of strong clusters and innovation environments that are attractive to outside parties.

European Marine Energy Centre, United Kingdom

EMEC is the world’s leading centre for testing wave and tidal energy converters at sea. Having hosted 17 companies (with 27 prototypes), more marine energy devices have been trialled at EMEC than any other site in the world. EMEC runs an international group for all the wave and tidal test sites. EMEC is on the management group for the H2020 MaRINET II project, both of which focus on transnational support for industrial development in the ocean energy sector.
EMEC is a focal point for the development of the Ocean Energy sector in the NSR. This sector has strong engineering capabilities supported by existing offshore expertise. However, the ability to drive down cost and attract investment is crucial in its next stage of development. Participation in this project will allow EMEC to take advantage of its position as a “shop window” for the industry to utilize the tools and techniques in PERISCOPE to support these emerging businesses.

Center of Maritime Technologies – CMT, Germany

Center of Maritime Technologies is a membership-based organisation in Hamburg with 85 members from industry (shipping, shipbuilding, ship equipment, classification societies & service providers), academia and research centres. CMT fosters maritime R&D&I and has close relationships with maritime industry associations and local clusters. Main research competences relate to production techniques, materials & structures, ship/offshore concepts, energy management & life cycle performance assessment.
CMT will benefit from the wide-ranging expertise in PERISCOPE as well as from the methodology, both of which will lead to promising proposals for innovation in Blue Growth. Moreover, companies (especially SMEs) and research institutes will receive better support from CMT and the PERISCOPE network to develop new ideas, to select the most promising of them and then start development of these ideas towards innovation.

Offshoreenergy.dk, Denmark

Offshoreenergy.dk is the official national knowledge centre and innovation network for the Danish offshore industry, facilitating networking activities within the offshore sector and universities. OEDK also manages technical and industry-wide development projects, participates in knowledge sharing activities and B2B events, and promotes of the Danish offshore sector in an international perspective. More than 270 member Companies.
Offshoreenergy.dk will benefit by strengthening relations and networks with other European offshore wind clusters and thus increase its capacity to support its national offshore wind industry members. Offshoreenergy.dk will increase its effort to facilitate cross-cluster innovation and cooperation, business relations by B2B events. Those international activities will be key for the development of innovations for the European offshore wind market.

Hanze University of Applied Sciences Groningen, the Netherlands

The Hanze University of Applied Sciences is the largest university of applied sciences in the North Netherlands, and has an overall focus on (renewable) energy, healthy ageing and entrepreneurship. In the Knowledge Center Bio- based Economy, these three domains come together. This knowledge center will contribute to PERISCOPE particularly by bringing in expertise on new business models (for single companies and value chains) and the circular/inclusive economy.
