How to utilise ocean data collected from smart sensor networks
Systematic collection of high-quality data is key to achieve well informed decisions. Digitisation and autonomy have come a long way in many industries, and the marine industries are also expected to benefit greatly from IoT technology, as autonomous operations and remote monitoring significantly reduces operational cost and risk. JPI Oceans 2020, the OECD Ocean Economy and Norwegian strategies including the governmental Ocean Strategy, emphasise the need for cost-effective technology that can address the challenges of obtaining good enough data from the ocean. This includes technological solutions that make the data readily available for the end user. These strategies also encourage to exploit the potential technology and innovation synergies among the ocean industries.
