Research Expeditions

Scientists report a lack of (open) information and knowledge about the location of wrecks, munitions, lost materials and sea dumped (chemical) waste and its composition. There is also a lack of international co-operation and joint (mitigation) strategies, as only fragmented action at national levels exists.

A number of research expeditions have been organised in the framework of the project in order to survey a selection of wrecks in the north sea, take samples and to investigate how surrounding conditions (current, temperature, salinity, geology processes) affect the risks from wrecks (and munition) in the North Sea by mapping the spatial and temporal sedimentation rates (erosion and deposition) around the wrecks.
