Open Manufacturing Campus (Belgium)

OMC is a non-profit, triple helix organisation that was founded 4 years ago.

Thematic competences and experiences

OMC is an open innovation campus and community focusing on engineering and manufacturing companies (especially SMEs) that want to grow as Industry 4.0 factories in a fast and controlled way within a scalable infrastructure, using the available production ramp-up knowledge and expertise of a highly-skilled workforce becoming available from the high-tech manufacturing plant of Philips Lighting on the same site.

Benefit for the organisation from participating in the project

OMC builds up a community of companies (mostly SMEs) that are active in high-tech and life sciences production and thus need Industry 4.0 concepts to be realised in practice. Therefore, OMC works closely with other Flemish partners like Flanders Make and Voka to help SMEs to bridge the gap between research results and business results through the controlled upscaling of their flexible production. By participating in this project the ecosystem that is being built can internationalise further.

Main role

OMC will work closely with SPK in WP4 to enrol the project within the region to sustain the projects ambition. OMC has the role of practitioner and acts also as platform for cross-sector know-how dissemination for the many SMEs in its community. In the context of WP5 students of the surrounding engineering schools and universities are actively involved in on site projects. Furthermore OMC will contribute to building strategies and business models to disseminate concepts in practice in WP3
