Seminar: Wind Assisted Propulsion Challenges and Perspectives

"Sooner or later, everything old is new again." - Stephen King, The Colorado Kid

For centuries world commerce was dominated by vessels propelled with wind energy. By the late 1800s, the rise of the steam engine and fossil fuels had displaced sail-based propulsion. Today, with the pressing need to abate carbon emissions and mitigate anthropogenic climate change, the shipping industry is once again turning to wind propulsion.

This presentation and its recording examine the available portfolio of technical solutions, as well as the economic issues and challenges involved in bringing such technologies to market. These topics will be discussed by two experts in the field, Mr. Gavin Allwright and Prof. Orestis Schinas.
