SkyTEM flight in the Drentsche Aa area
At the beginning of February a helicopter, commissioned by the Province of Drenthe, flew over the Drenthsche Aa region to map the structure of the soil layers in this area.
Being part of the Interreg NSR project Topsoil: the province of Drenthe commissioned a helicopter to fly over the Drentsche Aa between Zuidlaren and Rolde (see photographs below). The aircraft will fly in rows spaced about 150 m. apart and at a height of 70 m. above the ground.
The method used by the Danish company SkyTEM is rather unique. A frame of around 15 to 30m. is attached underneath the helicopter. By means of electromagnetic measurements, the location of clay, sand and peat layers can be determined. In the process of doing so, the device can measure as deep as 100m. below the surface.
