Presenting measures for farmers

16 November 2018 - Published by Jens Uvijn

On 15th November the Regional Water Authority of Noorderzijlvest organized a plenary meeting with their most important stakeholders group - the farmers.   Last year, during the first such meeting, there were some strong discussions with the farmers about potential measures to improve the agricultural circumstances.

These measures have been modelled at parcel level to define their impact now and in future. During this follow-up meeting the results of the modelling process were presented, resulting in a set of potential measures.

In the meantime, the summer of 2018 was one of the driest on record, with a nationwide average precipitation deficit of 300 mm. If this is a sign of what is to come, with extensive periods of drought occurring more often in the future, there is clearly a sense of urgency now in finding a suitable set of measures to create a sustainable water system.
