SURFLOGH's Final Meeting in Bremen

20 March 2023 - Published by Deirdre Buist
Since the kick-off in 2018, SURFLOGH has focused strongly on engaging with logistics stakeholders and optimizing the exchange of knowledge and experience. The consortium’s final meeting is now pending. So, together with ‘sister project’ ULaaDs, SURFLOGH is organizing a joint event in Bremen on 28th March to present the project’s results and key takeaways.

In recent years, it has become increasingly clear that a high quality of life in urban areas, coupled with a commitment to environmental sustainability, is strongly linked to the organization of transportation (for both people and goods). SURFLOGH and ULaaDs (ULaaDS - Urban Logistics as an on-Demand Service) have been prioritizing green logistics in urban environments.

ULaads approach to system innovation

ULaads was launched under the CIVITAS Initiative in 2020 and brings together 24 partners, including city authorities, research institutions, industry and logistics stakeholders, associations, and networks to support the deployment of innovative, feasible, shared, and zero-emission solutions across a three-year period. The project offers an approach to system innovation in urban logistics by relocating logistics activities and reorganizing urban freight flows at different scales, allowing people and local businesses to easily use alternative modes of shopping and delivery. The consortium’s new business models and schemes are being tested in so-called lighthouse cities – Bremen, Groningen and Mechelen.

Commonalities, exchange, co-creation

With so much in common, SURFLOGH is excited to seize the upcoming occasion for a major exchange of knowledge and experience. During the dual event in Bremen, our pooled groups of partners,  city authorities, research institutions, industry and logistics stakeholders etc.  will visit on-site ULaaD trials in the morning. In the afternoon,  the SURFLOGH partners take centre stage to present results and key take aways from their collaboration – with ample opportunity for joint discussion. Following a presentation of four key challenges, the day’s programme will conclude with co-creative workshops in search of solutions based on the participants experience and project results.
