SURFLOGH

Hubs & Hiccups

09 January 2020 - Published by Deirdre Buist
As part of the Surflogh project, the Province of Drenthe initiated a pilot in collaboration with the freight hub ‘Goederen Hub Groningen Eelde’ from November 2018 to May 2019. Aim was to test the economic feasibility of such a hub in terms of providing smart delivery services to the nearby city of Groningen.

There have been some hiccups. Based on this pilot it has been concluded that - in the current market - a long-term effort is needed to develop a successful business case. The return on investment for sustainable customer relations is insufficient for the near future. A full report will be published at the end of January and will be uploaded to this site.

Next steps

However, supported by the Province of Drenthe and the Municipality of Tynaarlo, Royal FloraHolland will continue to expand activities at their location in Eelde. Royal FloraHolland is a cooperation of flower and plant auction houses and the premier international floriculture marketplace worldwide. This location is ideal for the development of a future-proof, state-of-the-art logistics hub to facilitate the North of Netherlands and Northwest Germany.

Brainstorm

In order to investigate the full potential of the hub at Eelde, the next Surflogh brainstorm session (organized together with Royal FloraHolland) invites all regional stakeholders to exchange knowledge, expertise and experience during an event on 11th February 2020.

Please contact us through eventseelde@royalfloraholland.com for an invitation,  programme and registrationform (in Dutch).
