Coping with Corona

01 March 2021 - Published by Deirdre Buist
As we reach the one-year-lockdown mark resulting from the Covid-19 pandemic, it is clear that we may well have to continue adapting for some time to come. The ‘new normal’ is fast becoming normal. At the beginning of February, the North Sea Region Programme Secretariat hosted an online get together to share experiences on how projects are coping.

Surflogh joined 20 other projects to share challenges and solutions on how to keep things on track. Our tips on how to organize a hybrid event could prove useful this year too!

Hosting hybrid

Remember our ‘Masked Maids of Mechelen” post? Veerle de Meyer and Alexandra Winderickx of the City of Mechelen organized a hybrid event so that the all-important Zero Emissions Convenant could be signed live with their logistics stakeholders whilst another 170 people joined online. SURFLOGH pulled it off - with just a small professional team to support the live streaming.

Tips

Tips from the SURFLOGH team for a hybrid event:

  • Handle questions across locations in the chat to avoid the digital delay between the event and the live stream.
  • Assign a time-keeper.
  • Arrange some form of networking for participants – be creative.
  • Technical support with experience in organizing hybrid events is key.

The SURFLOGH consortium is currently planning another big event in September 2021 as part of the Faces of the Future Conference. Online, live or hybrid? It remains to be seen, but we will continue to adapt and cope.
