RiverDip Volunteer Training Workshops Resume in October 2020

14 July 2020 - Published by Annabel Hanson
We are delighted to announce that the RiverDip volunteer training workshop in Ghent has been rescheduled to 12 October 2020

RiverDip volunteer training workshops resume

In January 2020, the final meeting of the Sullied Sediments project, co-funded by the Interreg North Sea Region Programme, took place in Antwerp. One ambition of our project is to raise public awareness about the water quality of watercourses across the North Sea Region through citizen science.

As part of this work, a team based at the University of Hull (UK) has developed the "RiverDip" dipstick, which can be used to determine the ortho-phosphate content in watercourses. An increase in phosphate contributes to eutrophication or over-fertilization of the watercourses.

The aim of the RiverDip citizen science programme is to train as many volunteers as possible to gain insight into the phosphate problems in as many watercourses as possible in the various partner countries. The result of the RiverDip dipsticks are forwarded via the accompanying RiverDip app on your smartphone and displayed on an online map here: https://northsearegion.eu/sullied-sediments/tools-and-resources/

The Flemish Environment Agency would like to invite you to a workshop, "Use of the RiverDip app for determining phosphate," on Monday, 12 October 2020, at 13:30 in Ghent. The workshop will be given by Prof. dr. Mark Lorch, professor of Public Engagement and Science Communication, Department of Chemistry, Biochemistry and Chemical Technology at the University of Hull, UK.

You can register until Wednesday, 30 September 2020, via the link below. The number of participants is limited to 35.
