Stronghouse - Sustainable housing for strong communities

Stronghouse motivates and facilitates individual homeowners and neighbourhoods on their journey to energy renovation.

undefinedAccelerating energy renovation

As part of the energy transition, we need to adopt sustainable solutions and accelerate energy renovation in our neighbourhoods and individual homes. The measures currently available are fragmented and insufficiently based on property owners needs and concerns.  Stronghouse aims to analyse, adjust and redesign these measures to support homeowners in creating sustainable housing in their communities.

Collaboration

There are 19 partners and 7 sub-partners from 6 countries in the North Sea Region in the Stronghouse project, which is co-funded by the Interreg VB Programme. Local and regional authorities, knowledge institutes, SMEs, business support and public service providers will pool knowledge and expertise within the collaboration.

With an innovative focus, the aim is to reduce the carbon footprint of some 22,000 homes in the North Sea Reagion while generating an estimated 100 million euro in investments.

Energy renovation by individual homeowners is lagging. The impact of current support measures for these homeowners is limited because these measures are fractured and insufficiently based on the concerns of individual homeowners. Stronghouse will adjust and redesign these measures based on a better understanding of the drivers that motivate homeowners – individually and on a neighbourhood level - to invest and reduce the environmental footprint of their homes. For this Stronghouse develops innovative digital tools and strategies for this. Together these redesigned measures support homeowners in their journey from initial interest, to planning, financing and contracting energy renovation.

This innovative focus on homeowner concerns reduces the footprint of 22.000 homes, generates 120-million-euro investment and 36 kiloton CO2 reduction. Stronghouse starts by analyzing existing instruments on their impact. Sharing, (re-)organizing and enhancing them with complementary (digital) tools, Stronghouse raises their impact, contributes to the EU Green Deal and Renovation Wave, and delivers four, related support measures

  1. Instruments and tools that enable individual homeowners to invest in energy efficiency and renewable energies
  2. Neighbourhood-approach to organize the necessary scale and drivers to invest
  3. Market access for regional SMEs specialized in energy renovation for individual homeowners
  4. Adoption strategies for implementing these instruments, approach and market access
