Sønderborg is one in a hundred!

What a great recognition for the efforts of Sønderborg Municipality and our partners at ProjectZero! The EU City Mission programme under the European Commission has selected Sønderborg as one of 100 cities for the "Climate-Neutral and Smart Cities Mission”. That's pretty unique.

Selected from a strong field of 377 cities from all EU Member States, Sønderborg, together with the other chosen cities, will help the European Commission translate ambitious climate goals into climate action and new innovation, thus showing the way for the climate transition of other European cities.

Confirmation

Sønderborg’s Mayor, Erik Lauritzen is proud and pleased.  It’s a confirmation that with all our climate efforts and especially with ProjectZero, we have done the right thing in the Sønderborg area as we  work towards a CO2-neutral energy system by 2029. It emphasizes are leading role as a city in green transition. The selection helps to confirm the choice of Sønderborg as the host city for this year's IEA conference. This is a unique opportunity to boost the competencies in our ongoing implementation of Masterplan2029, focusing on, among other things, intelligent and cost-optimal CO2 reduction.

Visibility

At the same time, participation in the Climate-Neutral and Smart Cities Mission gives Sønderborg a great deal of visibility in European. “We can continue to further share our experience in energy efficiency and demonstrate the most effective way to achieve a CO2-neutral energy system”, says Lars Tveen, Chairman of the Board of the ProjectZero Foundation.

The Stronghouse partners greatly value the wealth of experience shared by ProjectZero within the consortium. We look forward to learning more as the Masterplan progresses and Sønderborg sets and example for other European cities.
