RGU presents at BUILD IT Conference in Aberdeen

01 February 2022 - Published by Deirdre Buist
Our partners from the Robert Gordon University (RGU) showcased their work and shared Stronghouse expertise during Aberdeen’s recent Construction and Property Conference, "Build It" which took place digitally on 18th and 19th January 2022.

In these highly challenging times, communicating, innovating and working digitally are part of the deal as we adapt. Trying new things and exchanging results remains a crucial aspect when keeping up the Renovation Wave momentum. Backed by industry bodies, as well as a broad spectrum of companies working in the field, Build It encourages open, honest and thoughtful communication surrounding important topics affecting the industry, providing an important platform and ensuring that all stakeholders benefit from results.

RGU present Whole House Retrofit

Stronghouse colleague Dr Amar Bennadji, a senior lecturer at the Scott Sutherland School, RGU took  the online stage and was joined by Matthew Clubb, a certified retrofit coordinator. With more than 200 participants joining the event, it was a valuable opportunity to highlight some of the key facts and figures regarding the need to  retrofit UK buildings on a mass scale and to present the new Whole House Retrofit standard, PAS2035.

Statistics & typologies

As Amar reported: “It was great to join the impressive lineup and participate in this exchange with  construction industry stakeholders. Assisted by Mohammed Seddiki in preparing for this, we got to share some of the knowledge, expertise and innovations we've witnessed so far during the course of the Stronghouse project. This presentation also covered a statistical overview of the CO2 emissions in the UK, with a particular focus on the housing sector.”  The speakers also analyzed the UK housing typologies and the potential of each category in cutting its CO2 emission through a step-by-step retrofitting approach.

Live interaction

"Over the years, RGU's Scott Sutherland School has been a keen participant and contributor at the Built It event.  Although  enthousiastic about the digital opportunities, we hope face to face meetings and 'live' interaction with the audience returns soon," Amar concludes.

We can only concur with that. As the world gradually re-opens, we look forward to our first physical Stronghouse Partner Meeting, now planned for Spring 2022.
