Meet the Partners: The City of Roeselare

25 November 2020 - Published by Deirdre Buist
The fast-growing City of Roeselare, in the heart of West-Flanders, has a mission to be leading in the development of smart, sustainable and innovative initiatives to create a future-proof living environment for its inhabitants. Strong citizen participation is key: solidarity, a sense of community and entrepreneurship are central to their approach.

By signing the Covenant of Mayors in 2017, Roeselare committed to the goal of becoming carbon neutral by 2050. To achieve this ambition  the city must renovate 1,100 houses annually and that means speeding up the process now.

Sharing & joint development

Keeping the  citizens central, Roeselare will work in Stronghouse with the other partners, including Noordenveld and IGEMO, to enhance the impact of financing instruments, as well as developing and co-creating empowerment tools and strategies for a neighbourhood approach to energy renovation. This cooperation will also focus on further developing adoption strategies and ways to access to specialized SMEs.

Extensive EU experience

In a European context, this municipality has an extensive network and a wealth of experience to bring to the Stronghouse table. The consortium can greatly profit from a shared analysis of their EU Urban Agenda and experiences gained with end users during the EU City-Zen Roadshow.
