Action for change made easier - the One-Stop-Shop

31 March 2023 - Published by Deirdre Buist
The latest IPCC report on climate change underscores the urgency of taking more ambitious action to reduce CO2 emissions. Taking the right action now could result in the transformational change essential for a sustainable world in the future. Besides the European Renovation Wave and strong political choices, every individual step can make a difference. Stronghouse supports those individual steps towards greener, more efficient energy consumption in the home, by using a Customer Journey approach, which includes the One-Stop-Shop concept, for example.

“More than a century of burning fossil fuels as well as unequal and unsustainable energy and land use has led to global warming of 1.1°C above pre-industrial levels, resulting in more frequent and more extreme weather events,”said IPCC Chair Hoesung Lee. “Taking the right action now could result in the transformational change essential for a sustainable, equitable world.”

Where to start?

These words resonate, but despite the sense of urgency, change is always a little frightening. Many people simply don’t know where to start and how to take those steps towards cleaner, more efficient energy options in the home. Now there is so much technical information available and, while the market is full of installation companies, there are long waiting lists and skilled tradesmen are scarce in the energy sector. Energy renovations can be expensive too. What are the financing options and the right choices for each individual situation? Where to start?

One-Stop-Shop

The Customer Journey forms the core of the Stronghouse approach to helping homeowners. With the end-user in mind, our Swedish partners from Linnaeus University and award-winning Klimatfastigheter Smaland BV have set up a one-stop-shop concept, integrating energy renovation services and facilitators. This enabling framework, has been breaking down some energy renovation barriers for homeowners and is one of the most customer-friendly support options.

Klimatfastigheter Småland AB offers energy renovations for single-family houses, by managing the entire process on the homeowners’ terms and based on their personal situation. Other partners offer similar OSS services, including Drents EnergieLoket (DEL) and the Municipality of Noordenveld.

The One-Stop-Shop process has been fine-tuned during the course of the Stronghouse project. The collaboration between partners from Klimatfastigheter, Linnaeus University and E.ON has, for instance, resulted in the development of a scalable business model. The consortium also benefits from these partners' insights and best practices.

Time for action

Summarizing the latest IPCC report, scientists say we are simply not doing enough to combat global warming. But they also underline that it is never too late to take action – every little helps. The One-Stop-Shop concept for energy renovation could relieve the angst and take the stress out of the process for individual homeowners. It is a valuable means to support and guide customers on their energy-efficiency journey.

After all, each small step towards the reduction of CO2 emissions is potentially a giant step for mankind.
