Next week: International Compost Awareness Week (ICAW) 2023
From 7 to 13 May it is International Compost Awareness Week (in short 'ICAW') with the theme this year: 'For Healthier Soil, Healthier Food...Compost!'. By making compost from bio-waste and using it on agricultural land, we create a healthy soil that provides healthy food. By using compost you have to use fewer pesticides, it improves the water quality and retains water like a sponge. And it retains the carbon in the soil, which has a positive effect on the climate.
International Compost Awareness Week (ICAW) is the largest and most comprehensive education initiative of the compost industry. It is celebrated nationwide and in other countries each year during the first full week of May. The goal of ICAW is to work together to raise public awareness on why we all should be composting our organics recycling and using compost. The program includes poster and video contests in the fall and activities and events held during the week in May. Throughout the week of ICAW, community, school, government and business events are held to encourage and celebrate composting - all types of composting – from backyard to large-scale. As SOILCOM is also about raising awareness, we also like to motivate stakeholders to give extra attention to compost production and use the coming week!
