Written by ILVO. On the 10th of September VLACO, ILVO and PCG (partners of SOILCOM) organised a field day together with the University of Gent and the Province of Oost Vlaanderen. Main subjects of the field day: the effects and use of compost and digistate.

ILVO has 15 years of research experience on composting and the quality of farm compost. On their own composting site they produce compost out of green waste streams and animal manure. During the day ILVO explained about their compost research. Researchers of the University of Gent showed their research of the advantages of using compost.

The Province of Oost-Vlaanderen made specifically the growers aware of erosion and the possibilities of measures like application of compost to reduce erosion.

Since 2016 PCG works on research concerning the effects of digistate in vegetables. Also in combination with compost.

VLACO showed the visitors how to obtain the compost and digistate and the application of these products. They answered the questions of the visitors about for example safety and the effect of application of these products in relation to other types of fertilization.
