A lot of interest for the LED event
On the 7th december 2018 a LED event took place at the Proefcentrum voor Sierteelt in Belgium for the whole greenhouse sector. During this event growers were informed on what to expect from LED light in greenhouse cultivation.
In a theoretical part of the event the effect of light colour on plants was explained by Marie-Christine Van Labeke (Ghent University). Also the possibilities of influencing growth and development of plants with LED was clarified. Afterwards Herman Marien (Thomas More) explained how supplemental lighting can be economilcal sufficient in a greenhouse company. After the theoretical sessions an interactive knowledge fair took place. Researchers of all the knowledge institutions concerning greenhouse cultivation (ornamentals, vegetables and strawberries) presented their research and expertise with posters to the audience. Also a visit to the ongoing LED trials at the Proefcentrum voor Sierteelt took place. At the end all 158 participants could visit the different stands of LED manufacturers during the network reception.
