SalFar Project Manager and Ban Ki-moon Discuss SalFar
On the occasion of the opening, the project manager of SalFar, Angelica Kaus, was asked to give a presentation on SalFar during a symposium after the opening ceremony. The presentation on SalFar went very well as it followingly generated a highly interesting discussion on climate adaptation and agriculture - an issue, where saline farming will play a more and more important role in the future, according to Angelica Kaus.
In addition to promoting the project at this event, Angelica Kaus also got the chance to talk to Ban Ki-moon in person about SalFar and hand over an information leaflet about the project. At the end of the symposium, a joint declaration of intent was signed for setting up an open field lab at the university campus to extend the field trials on saline agriculture and other climate adaptation measures. The co-operation consists of the local and regional municipalities, City and Province of Groningen, the University of Groningen, the Hanze University of Applied Sciences and the Waterschap Noorderzijlvest. To sum up, this was a very rewarding day in terms of disseminating information about SalFar and establishing a strong network for regional and international collaboration.
