PERISCOPE Partner, SNN, visits the bio-economy forum

11 January 2019 - Published by Stig Marthinsen

On 7 December 2018, PERISCOPE Partner SNN visited the first stakeholder event of the Blue Bioeconomy Forum in Amsterdam. The Forum brings together industry, public authorities, academia, and finance in order to strengthen Europe’s competitive position in the emerging blue bioeconomy. The event was relevant for the PERISCOPE project as the project supports the growth of transnational innovation partnerships in the blue bioeconomy.

During the event, which contained a panel discussion and two working group sessions, several aspects of the blue bioeconomy were discussed, e.g. the current status, strategic developments, market opportunities, financing possibilities and research priorities. Interesting discussions took place, for instance about ‘the valley of death’, something that so many innovative projects in the blue bioeconomy are familiar with. A lack of clear sector knowledge was mentioned as a challenging financial aspect. During the working group sessions, discussions were also held on licensing procedures, lack of consumer awareness and collaboration between academia and industry.
