Periscope partner, the European Marine Energy Centre (EMEC), engaged with marine energy innovators at the Ocean Energy Europe 2018 Conference & Exhibition on 30-31 October to tease out some visionary blue growth applications.

350 of the world’s leading marine energy organisations attended OEE2018 over two days. EMEC engaged with attendees via its exhibition stand, where staff were on hand to explain the Periscope concept to attendees and generate fresh ideas to feed into the project.

Europe leads’ the world in ocean energy development, and its pioneering companies are innovative and entrepreneurial by nature. Although in its infancy, the sector plans to deliver 100GW of clean renewable ocean energy in Europe by 2050 – enough to meet 10% of Europe’s electricity demand.

Although very much focused on getting their technology to market by the quickest route possible, attendees highlighted numerous alternative routes to market and applications for their technology. Generating power from a new resource like the sea throws up challenges, but it also provides many solutions.
