PERISCOPE Kick-off meeting: a packed agenda

01 December 2017 - Published by Stig Marthinsen
The official kick-off meeting of the PERISCOPE project was held in Amsterdam on 31st October and 1st November 2017. As Lead Beneficiary of the consortium, South Norway European Office invited all project partners to this two-day-meeting, which was also attended by the Joint Secretariat.

Almost one year after the submission of the PERISCOPE proposal, the kick-off meeting was the perfect opportunity for all partners to review the project objectives and the work plan, with a short overview of each project activity.

- The Kick-off Meeting is an important milestone of the PERISCOPE project, as it provides the foundation for effective collaboration in the coming weeks and months - both within the consortium and with European and international partners, said an enthusiastic Judith Pretty, Project Manager, South Norway European Office.

Linking six NSR countries, PERISCOPE will establish an entrepreneurial discovery process to reinforce the knowledge base, identify and valorise innovation ideas, and open up a Blue Growth ecosystem to stimulate industry-driven action on the concrete opportunities ahead. A key challenge is ensuring R&D discoveries being converted into sustainable innovations leading to growth and competitiveness of companies in the North Sea region. PERISCOPE brings together fragmented and specialised knowledge in a novel entrepreneurial discovery process that will trigger innovations and sustainable business development.

PERISCOPE will enhance the capacity of over 300 NSR actors within the blue economy, kick start a minimum of 10 Blue Growth innovation partnerships within the NSR, accelerate at least two major cross-border innovation projects, and increase understanding of innovation support and conditions for blue business development in the NSR.

- The North Sea Region (NSR) is a crucial area for Europe`s Blue Economy, but it is faced with profound challenges. Teaming and nurturing partnerships and collaboration of researchers, entrepreneurs, universities, business angels, investor community, maritime industry and clusters across the North Sea region is the key to unlocking the potential, commented Stig Marthinsen, Managing Director, South Norway European Office.

PERISCOPE receives funding from INTERREG North Sea programme.
