Periscope at EWRC - Smart Specialisation 4 Blue Growth Cooperation
In the context of European Week of Regions and Cities, the Periscope Network co-organised a session on Smart Specialisation 4 Blue Growth Cooperation together with DG Mare and DG JRC (European Commission) on 21 October. Among the speakers were Kerstin Brunnström, President of the NSC, Claus Schultze, Senior Policy Analyst at DG MARE, and Lola Rodriguez Coronil, EU Strategy Advisor at Norwegian Research Centre (NORCE).
More than 50 regions across the EU have identified maritime sectors/investments as a priority in their smart specialisation strategies and are investing in blue-growth-related prospective areas. The online workshop considered the JRC/DG MARE 2020 Annual Report of the EU Blue Economy, with a focus on innovation as an opportunity for thematic interregional cooperation through joint regional and corporate efforts in the emerging blue growth sectors. This animated discussion was complemented by a discussion on the role of quadruple-helix stakeholders in regional and macro-regional collaboration on innovation. The Periscope Network will use the outputs in their continuing work on engaging with the European Blue economy, helping organisations and businesses to progress new market opportunities in the Offshore Energy Sector.
