Future drone applications in the maritime sector
Within the Periscope project, partner Aarhus University presented interim results on the future of drone applications in the maritime sector to a lively and interested audience. It was explained what future drone and robotic applications located at shipyards, onboard ships, and at ports will look like and how they would be deployed.
Matthew Spaniol, a researcher at Aarhus University specializing in system engineering and strategic foresight, presented the outputs of 15 innovation forecasts including their expected time to commercial availability. Cases included future drone and robotic applications located at shipyards, onboard ships, and at ports.
The next five years (to 2025) will be a critical timeframe for the development of drones in maritime application contexts. The aim of the presentation was to support planning activities with the intention to orchestrate action towards the realization of said opportunities, and, indirectly, to a transition to a more innovative and sustainable character of the blue economy.
