PAV Workshops: CCAM-planning with Varberg Municipality
PAV aims to stimulate the uptake of electric and shared AVs by developing green transport and spatial planning strategies that incorporate AVs. To this end, it is essential to develop holistic concepts for the implementation of the project’s AV-Pilots, ensuring effective consideration of the scenarios to be evaluated, communication strategy, impact assessment approach, and mobility planning framework.
Supporting our local partners in their AV-Pilot deployment, PAV is undertaking a series of workshops focused on the strategic analysis of each site’s specific context and priorities. This approach helps to create a clear understanding of the city’s "automation-readiness level", understood as its capacity to make informed decisions about the deployment of Cooperative Connected and Automated Mobility (CCAM).
On Thursday 20 May 2021, such a workshop took place with the City of Varberg. Held in a virtual environment, the event allowed the analysis of Varberg’s mobility strategy regarding the introduction of CCAM and discuss research questions and key objectives for its AV-Pilot.
The workshop also enabled cooperation among PAV’s partners and their research efforts. Hosted and moderated by Rupprecht Consult, the event counted with contributions from Robert Gordon University, focused on stakeholder and citizen engagement effort, and Ghent University, who guided the discussion on social and environmental impact assessment. Besides, Halmstad University, POLIS Network, and Bax & Company joined and actively contributed to the analysis. Local representatives from Varberg Municipality and the AV-Pilot operator, Nobina Sverige AB, participated in the workshop.
A closing interactive session, guided by Rupprecht Consult, followed the OSTO systemic change management model, which stands for Open, Social, Technological, and Economic (based on German terminology “Ökonomisch) elements, to analyse local CCAM strategy in a holistic System Model perspective. In practice, this model is applied as a managerial and reflection tool and used in PAV to facilitate the management of the steadily increasing dynamism and complexity of mobility systems and to find effective strategies for CCAM planning.
