Exploring the social acceptability of Autonomous Vehicles

Electric shared autonomous vehicles (AVs) have the potential to overcome transport barriers faced by vulnerable groups and the general public, offering green and inclusive mobility solutions. While current sustainable transport options may not always be suitable for certain situations, such as carrying luggage or traveling with children, AVs can efficiently adapt to different needs. However, the social impact of AVs has been overlooked in transport research, policy, and practice.

To address this gap, the University of Ghent proposed a Social Impact Assessment (SIA) for AVs, providing a framework for evaluating and integrating AVs as sustainable transport options into local transport and spatial plans.
