Moving Bed BioReactor for denitrificationThe AnoxKaldnesTM plastic carriers are developed by KU Leuven and designed to provide a large surface area for the anoxic biofilm to grow and optimal conditions for the bacteria culture when the cariers are suspended in water to create a denitrifying Moving Bed BioReactor (MBBR).
This MBBR technology is based on the principle of biofilm growth on carriers which are kept in constant motion. This approach combines the limited growth of the biomass, high active biomass concentration and no sludge settling problems with the treatment of high nitrate concentrations (< 250 mgNO3-N/L). Unfortunately, the recovery of nitrogen is not possible.
