Sampling tripod to be used in Flemish waters in the coming weeks
20 May 2019 - Published by Karsten Seidel
From 27-29 May and 11-14 June 2019 the first exploration voyages with the research vessel "Simon Stevin" from VLIZ will take place off the Flemish coast. This includes tasks such as mapping the sea floor with the multibeam echosounder and diving to verify feasibility of sampling to prepare the test cases.
Besides the multibeam technology, side-scan sonar will be used. Divers are taking pictures and video footage for the exhibition. Biota samples include likely mussels, algae, starfish.
Diving on wrecks is necessary to put and collect the samples in the vicinity of wrecks, resp. munition dump sites.
