-E- nvironment in Maritime Spatial Planning

The North Sea is a rich environmental asset. However, economic and human activities (see Shipping and Energy) influence the environment and have an impact on the flora and fauna also in the unique cross-border natural reserves. MSP in general and NorthSEE in particular aim at contributing to their protection. On the one hand, environmentally protected areas in the North Sea are directly taken into account in the different national Maritime Spatial Plans (MSPs). On the other hand, MSPs can exclude human activities that are incompatible with the conservation objectives from taking place in the vicinity of natural areas.
