Transnational pilot on illustrated letters

12 April 2019 - Published by Evite van Winkoop
On March 18th, 2019 the municipality of Rotterdam visited the municipality of Roeselare as part of a transnational pilot: illustrated letters.

Together with the Dutch SME (small and medium enterprise) Publiquest, they developed a practical workshop in which employees learned why comprehensible letters are crucial in public communication and how to make illustrated letters. The workshop was given to all the employees of the communication department of the municipality of Roeselare.

The municipality of Roeselare also invited external parties for the workshop such as Wablieft (an SME that works with cities on the topic of understandable language), Kortom (an organisation for governmental and social profit communication) and VVSG (a member organisation of all cities in Flanders). By introducing this topic to these external parties, the knowledge on the ‘illustrated letters’ transcends the municipalities of Roeselare and Rotterdam.

Afterwards, they evaluated the workshop. With the input of the SME’s and the input of the communication department of Roeselare, they strengthened the cocreation of Rotterdam and Roeselare, to realise more awareness for the topic in Flemish cities. A whitepaper has been published about the illustrated letters approach.
