Ostfalia University of Applied Sciences (Germany)

With about 13,000 students, twelve faculties and 21 departments, Ostfalia counts among the biggest universities of applied sciences in Lower Saxony. As a state institution of higher education, it is represented by personnel of around 900 – including more than 200 professors – at its Salzgitter, Suderburg, Wolfenbüttel, and Wolfsburg branches. Ostfalia also features sevenassociated institutes.

Thematic competences and experiences

Research at Ostfalia is characterized by close cooperation with industrial companies. The university has a multitude of research specialities, which reflects the areas of activity of our own and the affiliated institutes. The wide range of research helps to grow interdisciplinary collaborations. The specialised technical knowledge regarding the mentioned research areas of Industry 4.0 and Digitisation is mostly generated by faculties of mechanical, electrical, IT and automotive engineering.

Benefit for the organisation from participating in the project

One of the main benefits is the international networking in the area Industry 4.0, especially regarding further research cooperation. Furthermore, the faster transferring of research results, and the extending of their own competences in the area of Industry 4.0 through these transfer cooperation with equal European Research institutions, is a big point.

Main role

Ostfalia is the lead partner for WP4. Furthermore, Ostfalia has special research knowledge in the field of producing industries, especially automotive industry and electrical/mechanical engineering. Ostfalia is a University of Applied Sciences and thus very application oriented. The University is part of the EXIST IV program which aim is an excellent technology transfer in existing organisations and generating Spin-Offs/Start-Ups.
