G-PaTRA partners Office for Regional Development Leine and Weser Region have produced a video detailing their ride-pooling lighthouse project in Aerzen, Lower Saxony, Germnay.

They discuss how they are rising to the challenges of transport in rural areas, which often have weaker infrastructure than in city areas and perhaps have other issues around demographic spread and digitalisation.

Aerzen was selected as a model municipality for the lighthouse project as the population is widely spread and the town lacks a railway station.

In an effort to reduce motorised individual transport, they trialled a ride-pooling app which would bundle together customers making similar journeys.

Find out more about the project and the development of the app in the video (in German with English language subtitles) is available to view here.
