Flood proof electricity grid Zeeland

Large-scale and prolonged loss of electricity is of great influence on daily life. In case of flooding of the electricity network by salt water, damage and recovery time is much greater than flooding by fresh water. Therefore, the climate resistance of the electricity network in Zeeland is being investigated in the FRAMES project.

In addition to the effects of floods, the effects of extreme precipitation will be considered. A quick scan of the water resilience of the main assets of regional electricity distribution will be run as well as a pilot in the municipality of Hulst in the south of the Province of Zeeland. The Hulst pilot will focus on loss of electricity and a detailed analysis of the resilience of vital and critical infrastructure. Results of the Hulst pilot will result in recommendations for operators of electric power transmissions lines and spatial planners to be used on a larger scale.
