The Department of Cultural Geography of the University of Groningen is focussing on rural development, with a track record in EU-projects, most recently in the Interreg project ITRACT and the H2020 project IMAJINE on territorial inequality. Emphasizing on the non-agricultural interest in rural areas the university has been doing several research activities on broadband provision through citizen’s initiatives and social innovations in rural areas.

 

Role in CORA     The University of Groningen plays an active role in the development of the CORA model and guiding measures for local and regional authorities. Another key role is the monitoring of pilot activities in the Netherlands and other regions as well as putting forward the knowledge of department on bottom-up broadband provision and utilization. Following and evaluating the results from pilot activities and integration of findings in the CORA Model and guiding measures are other activities by UoG.
