Why is the University of Twente participating in CATCH?
CATCH consists of a transdisciplinary partnership that will enable extensive interaction of scientific partners and public authorities in the context of climate change. Through CATCH, the UT will integrate scientific and nonscientific knowledge on climate resilience in tools that will be both innovative and socially and politically relevant. CATCH also gives the UT the opportunity to deepen the knowledge of the challenges of midsize cities in climate change through transnational comparisons.
What is your main role in the project?
The University of Twente will take the leading role in developing the benchmark and determining the city needs. The University will also be involved in developing the dashboard, co-designing the pilots based on the dashboard, evaluating the pilots and developing the climate adaptation strategies. Special focus will be on synthesizing the project results through transnational comparisons
What experience do you have with regards to climate adaptation?
The University of Twente is leading in the area of new technologies and a catalyst for change, innovation and progress in society. Its powerful research teams combine scientific excellence with societal applications. Within CATCH, the University of Twente will be represented by CSTM, the Department of Governance and Technology for Sustainability. CSTM’s researchers come from various disciplines and have experience in the fields of water governance, urban resilience and climate change.
What is the organisation’s experience in participating EU co-financed projects or other international projects?
The University of Twente participated in several INTERREG and Framework Programmes, including the following projects:
- Benefit of governance in drought adaptation (DROP, INTERREG 4B NWE)
- Knowledge-based climate mitigation for a low carbon economy (COMPLEX, FP7)
- People for the European bioenergy mix (PHOENIX, H2020, MSCA-RISE)
- Water is valuable for everybody (WAVE, INTERREG 4B NWE)
- Integrative systems and the boundary problem (ISBP, FP6)
