CATCH | Norfolk County Council

Why is the Norfolk County Council participating in CATCH?

Extreme rainfall events and high risk of flooding is leading to increased instances of this to both residential and business properties. There is limited cohesive cooperation between local communities and public organisations supporting resilience and adaptation to flooding. This project will bring expertise in developing a long term approach for adaptation to flooding events within Norwich and support the implementation of drainage measures and property level protection.

What is your main role in the project?

The piloting of a city-wide community focused flood resilience scheme involving water storage devices and flooding protection measures installed at a large number of residential, commercial and public properties, reviewing and evaluating the results of this approach to flood prevention within an urban setting and disseminating the learning from the approach to both the wider project partnership and beyond.

What experience do you have with regards to climate adaptation?

Norfolk County Council is de Lead Local Flood Authority for its region with responsibilities for co-ordinating investigations and protection from risks of surface water flooding carried out by water infrastructure organisations. This work is led by a suitably qualified and experienced flood and water management team who have instigated many flood alleviation schemes over a number of years. Involving the community is an integral and innovative feature of our pioneering approach.

What is the organisation’s experience in participating EU co-financed projects or other international projects?
