The first challenge of the BITS project on gamification in Oldenburg has been completed
The first challenge of the BITS project on gamification in Oldenburg has been completed and the award ceremony took place last week. An e-bike was raffled off among all participants who completed the challenge and rode 150km by bike. The award ceremony took place last Thursday. Currently, the second Bicycle Challenge is running in Oldenburg with 326 cyclists who have ridden 33.000km.
The Oldenburg Bicycle Challenge is conducted in the city of Oldenburg and started in September 2020. The objective is to analyze the collected and anonymized data, such as bicycle use, routes travelled, changes in cycling behavior and CO2 emissions saved compared to car use. The collected cycling data is analyzed by the BITS project partner University of Oldenburg/ VLBA. With the implementation, experiences in the use of ITS should be gained and exchanged with the BITS partners.
The citizens of Oldenburg can use the app Ciclogreen for one year with new challenges taking place every four weeks. Every citizen that reaches a certain number of kilometers within the challenge period takes part in a raffle and can win prices. For every kilometer cycled a virtual currency is collected which can then be exchanged for vouchers at local cooperation partners such as local stores, restaurants, or cafés. The app also seeks to motivate the citizens of Oldenburg to cycle more often by offering them the opportunity to connect with other users and to compete in rankings.
