BEGIN wins the REGIOSTARS Public Choice Award!
Last night, the BEGIN project won the Public Choice award at the REGIOSTARS Awards 2021!
The REGIOSTARS Awards have become Europe’s label of excellence for EU-funded projects, highlighting innovative and inclusive approaches to regional development. They reward the very best Cohesion Policy projects in the European Union, so the consortium is thrilled with this special recognition.
Commissioner for Cohesion and Reforms, Elisa Ferreira, said: “Congratulations to all the winners, they are role models for anyone that wishes to better the lives of people with the use of EU funds.”

Climate resilience, community resilience
For five years our partners have been working tremendously hard to tackle the consequences of climate change with blue-green infrastructure solutions through social innovation - co-created with citizens across our 10 participating cities. This ensures added benefits such as improved human health and new spaces for wildlife to thrive in the city.
BEGIN has delivered over 30 pilots with a flood risk reduction of around 30% and our partners have calculated that these actions will provide benefits worth €350 million over the next twenty years!
For some of our pilot highlights, check out our Blue-Green Cities in the Spotlight series.
We are delighted with this recognition and look forward to what the future holds for our pilot projects and spin-off initiatives!
