Mindemyren

The area of Mindemyren, close to Bergens centre, will undergo an almost total transformation during the next few years. Today, the area is heavily trafficked and consists of unappealing buildings. The aim is to create an attractive and characterful green urban area.

For example, the zoning plan allocates 35,000 m2 for new plazas and 2000-4000 new dwellings will be built. In addition, up to 550,000 m2 have been set aside for new buildings. The facilitation of 20,000 jobs has been made and Bergen Light Rail will also run through the area.

One of the main elements of the re-modelling is a canal that is currently well hidden underground. A two-level canal solution has been chosen, as this allows a more flexible design and shaping of the blue-green infrastructure at Mindemyren.

In addition to being a local floodway, the top canal will facilitate fish migration and blue-green urban living. The bottom canal will be built to handle the 200-year flood.

Møllendalselven River Park

The blue green infrastructure project of Bergen introduces the Møllendalselven River Park. The project involves the development of a river park with riverside promenades, bridges and recreation areas. This way the river quality can improve and trouts can be grown. The project involves the development of a citizen engagement scheme to ensure integration of river, park and city center.
