VLM - Cultivating Native Seeds

VLM conducted tests with trial plots for cultivating native seeds. Five trial plots (for five plant species) were established at three locations. The experiences in planting, maintaining and harvesting the seeds were discussed and evaluated with the partners involved ILVO (Flemish research institute for agriculture and fisheries research), National Botanic Garden of Meise, LTI Oedelem and Ecoflora. This provided enlightening insights into the cultivation of wild seeds. Afterwards, the machines for tillage, harvesting, drying and sifting of seeds were demonstrated. Especially the limited presence of seed drying facilities is a problem in Flanders.
