Policy recommendations
Agri-Environment Schemes (AES) are important for the conservation of farmed environments of high nature value, for the protection of agroecosystems and arable wildlife.
In most member states (MS), farmers can have a sown flower areas as part of their AES, however uptake has been low despite these being one of the most valuable habitats for a range of wildlife. Ways to increase uptake need to be explored. Establishment of flower areas within fields is a measure promoted as AESs in several MS.
