Some pictures of the spring monitoring in the Belgium BEESPOKE demo area ‘Frontzate’. The monitoring was carried out in the second half of April by Natuurpunt study, commissioned by the Flemish Land Agency (VLM). In this demo area we focus our approach mainly on supporting the grass bumblebee (Bombus ruderarius), which is seriously threatened in Flanders.
The most abundant flowering plants during this monitoring session were Dandelion (Taraxacum officinale), Purple deaf nettle (lamium purporeum) , Germander Speedwell (Veronica chamaedrys), Small coltsfoot (Tussilago farfara), Herik (Sinapis arvensis) , groundsel (Senecio vulgaris), henbit (Lamium amplexicaule), Daisy (Bellis perennis).
In addition to rather common bees and hoverfly species, 4 female grass bumblebees were observed on rim 6 and grass bumblebees were also observed along the Frontzate (old railway embankment). The species was observed during the search for nesting sites and during foraging on Dandelion and White Deafnettle. Copyright pictures: Nature-ID/Maarten Jacobs. #Interreg #NorthSeaRegion #NSR
