AVATAR - Test Green Wave in Ghent
The Green Wave is the full electric urban vessel (with skipper) developed in the #IWTS2.0 project and is being used as a research vessel in the AVATAR project.
During the test, construction materials (such as floor tiles, parquet and spray plaster) were loaded on the vessel at the border of the city of Ghent and unloaded at a wharf in the city center.
The test run got media attention from the local TV-station AVS, see here and video on YouTube. Also in presence of the deputy of East Flanders, An Vervliet.
The test run also enabled project partner SEAFAR to gather information in order to install the equipment on the new AVATAR vessel (in construction), enabling remote control of the vessel.
Also nice to see was the interaction with the ST4W-project (Interreg North West Europe (NWE)) with Yves de Blic and Loic Pecher doing track and trace tests for the goods and the vessel.
Finally, looking forward to the video shoot that Shane Woodford has made of the test day. This will result in a promotion video for the AVATAR-project.

The Flemish logistics newspaper FLOWS included an article about the test, as well as the online magazine Value Chain, see here (articles both in Dutch).
Pictures are included below, showing the challenges of city freight distribution via water (e.g. quays, bridges).
